T&T Chamber of Commerce concerned about decision to extend SOE

The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce has raised concern with the decision to extend the State of Emergency by three months.

Since the imposition of the SOE the police have reported a 44 per cent reduction in homicides since the start of the year when compared with the similar period last year.

The Chamber says while SOEs have a place in the crime fight, there is the need for a broader, more comprehensive approach to deal with the country's crime problem.

The Chamber says there is a need for short-, medium-, and long-term strategies that address social issues and improve the operational environment for businesses.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to working with the government and other stakeholders to develop solutions that create a safer environment for all.
