Israel carries out more than 100 air strikes across Syria

Israeli war planes have carried out more than 100 air strikes in Syria on Monday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based human rights organisation says military sites in Damascus, Daraa, Latakia and Hama have been targeted; Israel says it's acting to stop weapons falling into the hands of extremists.

Meanwhile, the UK says it's pausing asylum decisions on cases from Syria, following similar statements from several other European countries.

In Syria, BBC correspondents say they have witnessed huge crowds outside the capital's notorious Saydnaya prison, following allegations some inmates were being held in underground cells.
