The Ministry of Education is encouraging the public to actively participate in the consultation process on the development of a new grooming policy.
The policy aims to promote cultural expression, and respect for personal identity within schools while upholding order in the institutions.
Minister of Education Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says consultations involve stakeholders from diverse sectors, including educators, parents, students, schools and civil society organisations.
Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday, Minister Morris Dixon emphasised the importance of collaboration in shaping the policy.
She said the ongoing consultations are critical to ensuring the voices of all stakeholders are heard and considered, and the correct balance is achieved.
"I know a lot of young people will think that rules can be harsh, but we have to make sure that the rules are fair and we need to make sure that there is order in our schools. There's too much inorder in our society and our schools are very important for us to maintain order, but we understand that times change; times change and you have to look at things differently.
"That's why we have the consultations ongoing. We have the new 2024 policy - which will become 2025 policy - which we're still getting feedback from the schools, and we will continue to dialogue and have the right approach and its right balance between order and getting our students to learn in school. We want them at school," the minister insisted.
