The Church has joined in strongly condemning Tuesday's eviction of residents at a section of Coopers Pen, Trelawny from privately owned land.
The Jamaica Evangelical Alliance has decried what it says is the cold, calculated, and inhumane manner in which the residents were evicted and their homes demolished.
President of the Alliance, Bishop Dr. Alvin Bailey said the incident represents a failure by the government to adequately protect the rights and dignity of the residents.
He argued that the use of the security forces to detain men of the community prior to the demolition of their homes, represents an abuse of State authority.
The affected residents had reported that more than 20 men were detained without explanation and then placed under police watch.
Dr. Bailey also argued that the failure of the State's system to provide any alternative housing or shelter prior to the displacement of the residents is unacceptable.
He contended that the State has again failed its poor and most vulnerable.
