WIPA makes adjustments to contract conditions for regional players

Voice of WIPA Secretary Wayne Lewis

Secretary of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) Wayne Lewis says the association has found ways to tweak the contract conditions for regional players for the 2022-2023 period for retainer contracts.

There was contention regarding the process to award contracts after former vice-captain Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich were omitted from the current cycle for not playing enough matches within the stipulated year.

Meanwhile, Lewis says the players association has adopted the policy of another sport to protect players who get injured during their contractual year which could hamper their performances for a sustained period of time.

Cricket West Indies awarded one all format contract to Jason Holder, eight red ball contracts and nine white ball contracts for the period July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
