Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has said the COVID-19 safety protocols for the restart of the cruise shipping industry in Jamaica are close to completion.
Mr. Bartlett said an agreement was reached on what the protocols will entail following meetings with the Ministry of Health and the Port Authority of Jamaica.
He said an announcement on the protocols will be made shortly.
The minister noted that livelihoods are at stake as the entities driven by cruise earnings are "at risk of being closed now [and] some have gone bankrupt as a result" of 16 months of no activity in industry.
Mr. Bartlett was speaking Thursday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
